Week beginning 11th February 

 

This week the pupils have been working to make predictions about our new text ' The Pirates Next Door' in Literacy. As part of our maths work we have been practicing our division and even started dividing using remainders! 

During topic work this week children have used a range of resources from HWB to collect data and make some word banks on their topic. We also carried out a Science experiment called 'walking Water'. 

 

 

Week beginning 4th February 

 

What a fun filled week we have had after the snow! following on from pupils experiences  over the weekend of the recent snowfall we used Green Screen to re create some of our own News Reports about  the disruption the snow caused to communities and the fun children got to experience. The children were fantastic and excelled at being News Reporters! 

Seeing as the temperature had changed due to the snow fall we decided to investigate temperature during our Maths sessions. We read, ordered and compared temperatures, we even kept our own 5 day weather chart recording the daily temperatures. 

Also this week was Internet Safety Day. For this we have carried out E Safety lessons through the week. We read the story Digi Ducks Big Decision! and made posters, booklets and green screen videos about E Safety.

Week beginning 28th January

 

This week we have been writing our own version of the Rainbow Fish. We have some very creative writers in Year 2 with great imaginations! This week pupils have been exploring some of the Big Maths characters and enjoyed learning how to carry out jigsaw numbers to make 100. 

 

 

Week beginning 21st January 2019 

 

This week we have started reading our new class text 'The Rainbow Fish'. We used story maps to order events to record our Oracy work. We also wrote a retell of the story. In maths this week we have been practicing to tell the time using analogue and digital clocks. In our topic work we have been making our own pirate treasure maps. We had lots of fun making them! 

 

 

Week beginning 26th November 

 

This week pupils have worked extremely hard on writing their own diary of events. In Maths we have been working on money and making amounts.

Week beginning 12th November 

 

What a busy and fun filled week we have had in Year 2! This week we have looked at our school vision Faith Action Success

 

As part of our vision week we looked at using a dictionary to find out the definition of faith, action and success. we created acrostic poems about our school, wrote a class prayer and lastly we created word cloud images of all the words we felt represented our school.

 

In Maths this week we carried on our investigations on measuring length. our focus this week was to solve a range of reasoning problems based on measuring.

 

In literacy this week we started reading our new text ' Maximus and the Giant'. from this we recorded all the main events from the story, looked at the features of a diary and have begun to write our own diary.

Week beginning 5th November

 

Class Topic - Towers, Turrets and Tunnels. 

 

We have had another fantastic week in Year 2. We have been very busy!

 

This week we have been writing and following instructions. We followed instructions to play a game and make a poppy. We also wrote our own set of instructions based on making a range of food for a castle banquet. 

 

In maths our focus has been length. We have been measuring using cm and m. Pupils completed a range of focused tasks measuring and converting length. As part of our rainbow challenge and independent tasks this week the children have measured and estimated the length of a range of equipment. 

 

We also made  poppies using a range of different materials for our whole school display and class alter. 

 

Thank you for all the amazing castles we have received in school. The children have thoroughly enjoyed sharing them with us. We would like to thank you all for your continued support with our topic.

Year 2 2017-18

Week beginning 9th July

 

Another busy week in year 2. We have looked at the story The Rainbow fish by Marcus Pfister and discovered how it got its name. The children found out facts about rainbow fish. They retold the story focussing on the moral of the story which is to share and show respect for others.

We learnt about other faiths and investigated the life of a child following the Islamic faith.

In maths we completed pictographs on favourite colours. We made the most of the good weather and introduced the game of rounders. Perhaps you could play this in the park during the summer holidays.

 

 

Week Beginning July 2nd

 

This week we have been investigating how colour dissolves and separates. All the children had to predict the outcome. They enjoyed the experiment with skittles as it was also fun. We all did some research on Fairtrade and found out about fair-trade products. We made colourful birds from paper plates and read fables as to how the birds got their colours. In RE we combined our topic on treasures and discovered how important a treasure water is. Sports day was a great success and we all enjoyed it.

Everyone took part and participated to the full. We then drew posters promoting the message

'Keep Fit Keep Healthy'.

Week Beginning June 25th 

 

We enjoyed a week of sunshine and learnt about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We looked at the treasures of God's world and discussed how best we can look after it. We painted and printed pictures of flowers and butterflies, In science we experimented with circuits making the bulb brighter and dimmer. In maths we explored symmetry. Children enjoyed finding out the meaning of their names and how each of us is special to God.
