21st-25th September in Dosbarth Oren
Another busy week in Dosbarth Oren, we are back in action!
Every morning we've been recapping and learning new sounds, Mrs Williams' group have been conquering 4 sounds, 'a','s','m','d' this week with Fred Frog and Miss Davies' group have been working on sound 'sh' and green words sad, sat, mat, mad, at, dad The children have been working hard to say, form and write these sounds and words.
In Maths this week we've been counting, recognising numbers and matching the value using our natural resources we collected the first week. We've introduced our new story for Literacy this term, 'The Knight who wouldn't fight!' and we've already began investigating the text and started to write sentences about Leo, the mouse knight, from the story we've read together so far.
The children have started reading individually with us this week, we have posted on Seesaw which book to read on Bug Club this week, if you cannot access Bug Club, please send us a message and we can sort it.
ARRRRGH MATEY! We were pirates for PE this week, we've climbed the rigging, scrubbed the decks and even fell over board! In RE, we been talking about what we are thankful for and together in our groups we each wrote a thank you note to God to build a prayer. We've started investigating castles for our Topic, 'Towers, Tunnels and Turrets' and trying the identify features of historic and modern castles.
Birthday Shoutout: We've celebrated our first birthday in Dosbarth Oren this week, Happy Birthday Belle, we hope you have a fabulous day!
Information for next week:
Monday 28th September is an INSET day, Tuesday 29th September is School Picture Day and also the feast of St Michael, to celebrate there will be a non-uniform day on Friday 2nd October.
See you Tuesday!
We’ve had a busy first full week back, Miss Davies and I have been carrying out different assessments to establish where the children are in their learning journey & I will now be able to use this to inform our planning moving forward. All the children were exhausted by yesterday afternoon so had a “Cinema afternoon” as a reward for their efforts, we were treated to some excellent singing along to ‘Into the Unknown’ especially!
For your information –
- All children should be bringing a coat and water bottle to school each day.
- All uniform, bags, bottles etc. should be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
- A pair of wellies should be left in school in a labelled bag.
- We will be doing PE on a Tuesday, but as we are trying to go outdoors regularly Mrs Taylor has said children can wear joggers on any day.
As mentioned in the letter sent home to your child’s code, we will be trying to use Seesaw in order to minimise paper going between school and home in a variety of ways:
- to show work your child is particularly pleased with.
- to set homework tasks.
- for reading (we will be using physical books in school then reporting back on Seesaw and giving Bug Club books at the same band level for home reading)
- to share photos of drawings or things they have made in class (these are being stored in individual folders in the hope that normality will return and they can be taken home).
In order to effectively use both our reading books and the Bug Club resources online, we are now allocating books according to their coloured book band not their Oxford Reading Tree stage. By using book bands, we are able to provide children with additional books from other schemes, while still ensuring they are at the correct level. I am aware that during lockdown some of the Bug Club books were used as stories for parents to share, so it may be that some books are reallocated for the children to practise their own reading.
Your child can access their Bug Club account using the web address below; I will also be putting links to our maths work on their account throughout the year. https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk
We are looking forward to a busy year and thank you for your ongoing support,
Mrs Williams and Miss Davies
