Our Class Learning Journey

First Week Back!

Week commencing 6th November 2023

The children returned from half term and had produced some amazing homework! Presenting what features they would need in their dream city if they were to build one, and then exhibiting how WWII affected their family in the 1940's and beyond. We also had the chance this week to get the green screen out and make videos showing others how to budget using Google Sheets. A really positive and exciting first week back!

Week Five!

Week commencing 2nd October

The Pantomime pulled into St Michael's Station this week with 'The Railway Children'. We had an awesome time and loved every second.

In class, we began looking at money in numeracy sessions. We recapped how to add amounts and calculate change, which lead into learning about budgeting next week.

In literacy this week, we have had a go at writing some poetry about ourselves, reflecting on who we are as people whilst using exciting imagery to make our work more intriguing for the reader.

We finished this week off with the return of Senedd! Our new ministers and Senedd leads got the opportunity to get stuck into their new roles, sharing ideas and setting the example for younger children to follow.

Week Four!

Week commencing 25th September

St Michael's Feast Day! As well as celebrating the feast of the archangel our school is named after, we also had the opportunity to focus on our school's vision of 'Faith, Action, Success'. Using this vision, we made mood boards to show how St Michael's Way looks in our everyday lives. We also had the chance to spend some time with our new buddies in Nursery!

As well as celebrating our Catholic learning, we have also taken some time this week to celebrate diversity by learning about Judaism. We have learnt about one of the most important symbols, The Star of David and created origami versions. We also created a fact file of information we already knew, we learnt during the week and pieces of information we wanted to learn about going forwards.

Week Three!

Week commencing 18th September

We have had so much on this week, including our first trip of the new school year. We took a trip through Pontypridd Park following the trail and using our orienteering training to help us map read. We also went into Pontypridd Museum to learn about some of the history of the town, as well as visiting Pontypridd Library and seeing what the town used to look like on old maps.

Week Two!

Week commencing 11th September

We started this week off with a live, online session teaching us how to use Adobe Creative Cloud Express to design posters for The Rugby World Cup! We have been getting stuck in to story writing to begin the year, as well as using purple pens to improve our work constantly. We also had the first go on our new orienteering course, which was really good fun. We even helped reception when it was their turn.

NEW YEAR 6!!!

Week commencing 4th September!

We are back in school and straight into action.

Y6 are enjoying the return to school. We have been discussing the different opportunities for responsibility throughout Y6 including the roles within the Senedd that we can apply for. We have begun to create presentations putting ourselves forward for the roles that we want. We have also been recapping some addition and subtraction methods, as well as planning for areas of learning that we want to see appear throughout our new topic 'Me and My World'. What a positive start to Y6 the children have made.
