Celebration, Celebration, Celebration!

heart Monday 3rd - Friday 7th heart

The week of our school Eisteddfod! An awesome and creative way to start the week as our D&T Homework task was due in ready for the Eisteddfod! The competition was fierce and I had a tough time deciding who our winners would be! An amazing effort by everyone and I am really grateful for your efforts! heart

Our Art task was focusing on Gwen John and her portrait in watercolour style. The class did amazingly well in this task, the hardest bit was having to look at themselves for so long! cheeky Here are our deserving winners!

In our handwriting, we used the poem by David Boyce to get inspiration about our amazing country. Here are our winners!

Here are the winners of our D&T Task - a tough choice, but a fair one! I was focusing a lot on the independence of the task as well as the quality of it!

It came time to decide who our Bard was going to be! This is a special honour that only year 6 can be eligible for! Our Bard Chair was taken to a new level this year with it because specially designed by one of our super talented parents! Diolch yn fawr!

So our Bard was crowned! Llongyfarchiadau!

Check out their amazing poem!

So, all of this hard work; the songs, the poems, the performances and all the effort came down to which house has taken all the glory...

And the winner is...

This week, our amazing children also supported Mr Payne and Miss Evans in delivering a speech to Headteachers all across RCT! These superstars were excellent ambassadors of our school in showing what we do and how we do it when it comes to our marking and our feedback!

Diolch, pawb! You did yourselves and us so proud! heart

Science Week 1

cool Monday 10th - Friday 14th cool

We started our week celebrating this year's World Book Day! We know it's late, but we had to fit it around our other events! We all dressed up as our favourite characters and brought them to life! We made a character profile page in the style of Top Trumps and had debates on whose character was the best for a number of reasons!

Check out our awesome costumes!

This week we focused on our first Science Week of the school year linking to British Science Week - Change and Adapt! We had a range of activities focusing on making our world a more supportive place including renewable energy, sustainability and conservation!

We have started growing our own tomato plants! We have planted the seeds, watered and now we wait!

As part of animal conservation, we focused on the Axolotl! We created amazing buildings in Minecraft focusing on protecting them, their habitat and amazing facts about them.

In our Maths this week, we focused on calculating missing angles from polygons including triangles, squares and a quick look at the formula to find out the degrees of shapes with more than 4 sides!

We had a go at measuring angles and using protractors to get the job done!

Planning, Preparation, Performance!

enlightened Monday 17th - Friday 21st enlightened

During this week, we have been focusing a lot on our key skills - things that will benefit us most as we get older in writing for purpose, but also writing for different audiences! In our streaming groups, we have been planning to create our own nursery/fairy tale with a Welsh theme! We will then read them to our buddies in Nursery - Year 2!

In our Science this week, we have been recapping the information from our Science Week in which we need to Change and Adapt to the new way the world works, and one of the most important things is Climate Change!

So, we replicated this Science into a dissolving experiment using different temperatures of water and sugar cubes! It was a really difficult challenge... mainly to not eat all of the sugar!

Towards the end of the week, Mrs Taylor gave us a challenge - to help write a persuasive letter as part of our grant for funding to improve our school yard! The Trim Trail has unfortunately run out of strength and will need to be removed, so we are looking to the future and how we can make our school grounds more fun!

We worked well in small teams of 4 and created some great supporting documents!

Da iawn, pawb! laugh

Hard Work + Creativity = Success!

yes Monday 24th - Friday 28th yes

Lots of creations done this week!

What a busy week this week! To start us off, in our streaming groups, we took a walk of our local area to gain some inspiration for a setting as part of our fairytale stories!

We looked at building style, different types of housing, decoration and even things that are long overdue a little bit of care! The main focus was looking at small, medium, large sized items as well as a background of our amazing Welsh Hills!

We then created some visual storymaps using card!

They came out great!

This week, we made a lot of cards! We began our week focusing on our well-being and being not only the best we can be for ourselves, but showing how we can show our best selves to others too. A little pick-me-up session where we created a card for someone in our class to cheer them up and make them feel better too!

As it is Mother's Day this Sunday, we also created some amazing cards to celebrate the people that brought us into this world!

In our Science, the competition was judged and decided and we had our class top 5! The judging was particularly difficult as the standard was pretty high! Well done to everyone! Check out some examples below!

This week, we were also paid a visit from Network Rail where we were asked about our thoughts and opinions on how to better improve the roads, paths and walkways in our local area to make it safer and easier to cross roads and get to school!

We used teamwork, map skills and negotiation skills to support our points of view! It was a great session!

Lastly, as it was National Maths Day on Wednesday, we were challenged by the Maths Senedd to create posters centered on the topic for this year's theme: Maths For Everyone! This was ALSO a competition which we will have the results for next week! We also have a super busy week coming next week, can't wait to see what we get up to!
