To Know You More Clearly

At St Michaels RC Primary, We follow the Religious Education Directory and its program "To Know You More Clearly". Throughout 2023-24, we began to explore the new RED in EYFS and Year 2. During the academic year 2024-2025, we rolled out our new RE Curriculum throughout all classes from EYFS - Year 6 using Margaret Carswell's, "In God's Name" alongside the RED to guide us.

As a whole school, in 2025–2026, the RED is now fully implemented from Nursery to Year 6, supported by the quality resources provided by Magister Ltd.

The Magister programme complements the RED by providing a clear, structured and progressive approach to Religious Education, helping teachers to deliver engaging lessons that develop pupils’ knowledge, understanding and ability to reflect on their faith. The resources support teachers in planning and delivering the different branches of the RED, while providing opportunities for prayer, Scripture, discussion, reflection and creative responses. This ensures that RE is taught consistently across the school and that pupils build upon their learning as they progress from Nursery through to Year 6.

The Magister resources have supported staff in developing a consistent approach to the teaching of RE across the school, whilst still allowing teachers to adapt learning to meet the needs and interests of their pupils. The programme provides a range of engaging activities, resources and opportunities for children to explore Scripture, Catholic tradition, prayer, liturgy and the lives of the saints. It also supports pupils in making meaningful connections between their learning, their own lives and the world around them.
